My Commitment to Education: Firsthand Experience in Our Schools

As a dedicated substitute teacher in both Forest Hills Public Schools (FHPS) and Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS), I’ve gained invaluable insights into the strengths and challenges of our local education system. This hands-on experience has shaped my understanding and vision for our schools.

Why I Chose to Substitute Teach:

1. To gain a comprehensive understanding of our school districts
2. To directly engage with teachers, staff, and administrators
3. To observe the day-to-day operations of various schools

What I’ve Learned:

• Each school has a unique culture, influenced by its principal’s leadership style and the school environment
• There are notable differences between schools, even within the same district
• The importance of adaptability in education, as each school faces distinct challenges

My Experience:

• I’ve been invited back to every school where I’ve taught
• Schools often request me specifically, especially for subjects like Physical Education
• I’ve built positive relationships with staff across multiple schools
